I teach private lessons in
Manhattan's Upper West Side.
I earned my bachelor's degree in
music education from Berklee in 1989
and enjoy teaching very much. In the
late 1990's, I lived in Maine and taught
music theory and jazz improvisation
to guitar students at the University of
Southern Maine. During the same
period I also taught public school
instrumental music, developing one of
the largest 5th grade beginning bands
in the state- in Scarborough Maine,
several years in a row. (The kids had
fun and learned a lot!).
Long Distance Lessons
In addition to private students in New
York City, I also offer individualized
lessons to people anywhere, via the
internet. Through a combination of
videos, sound files, emails, etc., a
very personalized approach is arrived
at for each individual. Contact me for
further information.

Testimonials / emails
Jay not only remembers how he got to
where he is, he can explain it in a way that
a player from almost any background can
get an exciting grasp of it. He listens to
my playing and validates my strengths and customizes a lesson plan to improve my
weaknesses. He listens to my goals and
includes that in our studies.

Jay,
Outstanding. Simply outstanding. I am
pretty busy here at the end of this week, so
I haven't had a chance to go through the
videos in great detail, but I did watch
about half of them carefully, and the rest a
little more quickly. You have apparently
assessed where I am quite well, and this
is such a good mix of materials! I am
dying to dive in. You obviously put a lot of
time, work, and (most importantly) thought
into this. Now I am going to have to talk
you up as a teacher, but you have to agree
not to get too busy to continue giving me
lessons!
